Worth Buying : But Read

I used to have LDAC previously. I play synth, and I prefer slightly warmer sound. I must say Earmen Eagle is definitely worth a buy (if you don't have a balance 2.5mm cable headphone), else you should go with Sparrow (Pro Tip: don't buy a sparrow if you are going to use a 3.5 mm cable, because I feel Eagle performs better with 3.5mm cables).

In comparison with Shanling UA2, I chose Earmen because of less battery drain and premium build and its definitely better than Shanling UA1. Since the aforementioned DACs are portable and non chargeable, you may not expect them to drive Headphones over 50 Ohms. 50 is the limit.
I have Sony IER - H500A (16 Ohms), 1more 1001(Triple Drivers) (32 Ohms), Audio Technica ATH M50x (38 Ohms I assume), BeyerDynamic DT240 Pro and I use these with audio services Tidal (online), Apple Music (online), Blackplayer EX (offline, not worthy if you want detailed sound), PowerAmp (offline), not a spotify fan. And I must say this DAC is exactly what I was looking for, it's definitely better than my Sony's LDAC, and is decently better than the LG V20's QUAD DAC .

If you are a super balanced sound listener then I would suggest you to go with Sparrow, because the Eagle has slightly warmer touch, but hey, you can always tweak the sound. It provides a huge Sound Stage, and opens new dimensions for the same pieces of music you listen to.
For the price, I will say its a must buy. I mean if you are willing to spend enough for cobalt, then definitely buy a cobalt, but in comparison with DragonFly Red, I would prefer Earmen Eagle any day, because it beats DragonFly Red in price, as well as sound and maybe even in Battery. No its not better than Sparrow (provided you use Sparrow with a Balanced Cable).

I would prefer others to use offline players like, Hiby or PowerAmp for files like Flac, Alac, DSD(if you have a better equipment), rather than Online Services for better Audio Quality.

Kudos to HPZ for providing the product to me. Looking forward to buy some more products!

HI Harshit,
We are so happy you took out time & elaborately reviewed the product with a comparison. We are sure this will help our customers to make an even better & informed decision.

Rich detailed sound, Low power output

Before purchasing this I had considered TempoTec Sonata HD PRO and Shanling - UA1, the first used a micro USB connection and the latter had an inferior chip compared to the Eagle and the cable was non removable this affecting its longevity. The Eagle looks and feels premium with metal frame and glass panels front and back.
This is definitely the sort of portable DAC that has a perceivable impact on sound quality and is on par with my previous LG G7 quad DAC. The sound is clean, detailed, full and scales with increase in volume without harshness or distortion at high volumes.
However the power output is quite low compared to similarly priced Shanling - UA2. The Eagle can easily drive my Moondrop SSR and Aria but my Sennhiser HD 599 needs at least 80% volume to properly drive it with enough headroom for dynamic spikes and EQ.
I recommend these for most IEMs and high sensitivity Headphones under 50 Ohms impedance.
Thank you headphone zone for making this available for a price that is less than that available at EarMen website ($129)

Excellent portable DAC amp

I have been trying to buy a quality portable DAC/amp for so long, because the popular Dragonflies are so over priced. Now with the price correction Earmen eagle comes just around $100.
Iam a budding audio enthusiast, will try to describe in brief.
Bass excellent, almost equivalent to desktop amp.
Vocals are super clear. Treble is excellent, smooth and airy. Resolution is very good, heard many instruments first the first time in few songs. Soundstage/headstage is wide enough to feel the instrument seperation clearly.

It can drive my Drop4XX to its full potential and Sennheiser hd599 to its fullest with some juice left.
Very happy with Earmen eagle. Kudos to Headphonezone to make all the world's best brands available to Indians. Thank you.

Hey Siva, Thank you so much for the positive feedback! It means a lot to us. We are so happy to hear that you are loving our products and services. We hope to see you again soon. :)

The Hype is true!!

Well, you may have guessed it already with the title. This is a wonderful DAC and an extremely value proposition from Earmen. I already have a FIIO M3 Pro which served me well mainly as a DAP. So while looking out for a DAC to be used mainly for playing music from the phone, was in two minds between this and the FIIO BTR5 2021. However just took a leap of faith with this one and fully satisfied with the decision. So far, I had only been reading terms like - width, space, bigger sound stage etc.- I could straight away feel all of these and much more. There is a considerable improvement in sound quality over my exisiting set up. Would recommend this anyday for someone looking for convenience and a true value for money product. I mainly use Spotify premium and can fully imagine the outcome with FLAC/Wav etc. Formats. The build quality and design too looks premium as well.

Headphone zone has been prompt in sending me regular updates until the dispatch. Just one suggestion - one of your mails had erroneously mentioned a 'head phone' where as it was a DAC on the way. May be just a template to be reviewed. On the whole a pleasant experience.

Versatile DAC that pair well with warm headphones

On the first day of receiving,i thought something wrong with DAC.since i am used to nos sound.i am in dilemma for 2-3 days either keep or exchange it.
But i noticed that it pair well with warm/bassy headphones well not the one with v-shaped sound signature.avoid use of brighter headphone at any cost.
In any low quality dac;the midrange is shadowed by instruments. But this is not the case with this amazing DAC.Your head will not find anything missing ,
32 ohm is safer range ,with my yamaha hp-50 struggles, due to 150 ohm impedence

Definitely a worth purchase.

Some information about my gear collection:-
headphone:-Audioquest nighthawk,Yamaha hp-50,Radius hp-nhr11,edifier hp180(all headphones are modded)
dac/dap:-nobsound 1387 dac(nos dac),iphone se 1st gen,sony old walkman

Hey Deepak,

A lovely, ultralight albeit capable, portable dac dongle for PC and Android

I was literally blown away by the sound and Soundstage when I connected it to Windows 11 Dell PC and V Moda Forza earphones I purchased from Headphone Zone. It is plug and play. No hassle. It takes control of PC sound output automatically and disables spatial sound. It is far superior to Windows Spatial as well as Dolby Atmos for Headphones on Windows 11. I loved this portable DAC absolutely. Yet to use it with Android Samsung Galaxy Note 10. Looking forward to it. Build quality and finish are fantastic !

Best Suited for Portable Use
DAC Chip

You may not even realise it, but most of us use a digital-to-analogue converter (commonly known as a DAC) daily. Built into your computers, tablets and smartphones, a DAC is fundamental to unlocking the convenience of digital music. Any device that acts as a digital sound source will need a DAC to convert digital audio to analog. A DAC converts the digital information stored in “0s and 1s” into an analog signal that's passed to speakers or headphones and ultimately our ear. In short, DACs play a large part in making digital music hearable.

While this technical process is undoubtedly impressive, the DAC embedded into your smartphones or laptops is nowhere good enough to listen to your favourite music recordings in high quality. So, if you want to listen to music in high quality, an external DAC is essential to allow headphones or speakers to perform at their potential. An external DAC, first and foremost, will improve audio quality dramatically.

Pair with Laptop via USB

A majority of people use a laptop as the primary source device to listen to music or watch movies. Since the laptop is an essential part of the audio chain there are headphones and devices designed to work a laptop or computer system flawlessly. With the availability of USB connectivity, it becomes easier to pair various devices like an Amp, DAC or even headphones without worrying about drivers or any additional piece of software.

Super Lightweight
Design

There are so many dongle DACs, but this Serbian gem is one of my favourites. They may be a little costlier as compared to some of the chi-fi options, but the European build quality and attention to detail make it more than worth it. I love that it comes with a convenient USB C adapter too.
