Rock and metal from India has much to offer. From classic rock sounds to death metal; from indigeneous folk-fusion to raga-laced metal; from jazzy jams to moshpit-inducers; from English to Malayalam. There's an insane amount this country has to offer. In celebration of the return of Independence Rock, the country's iconic rock music festival, we bring you a celebration of Indian rock and metal. This is a curation of songs perfect for headphones. Consider it an aural and spiritual warm-up to the festival!
Who Is it For?
This is for anyone who likes rock - period. We'll keep the playlist diverse enough so everyone will find a new song, genre or artist to enjoy. This would be PERFECT for those who are heading to Independence Rock on the weekend - like we said, it's a warm up of sorts!
Meet your host: Berty Ashley
Berty Ashley enjoy curating and sharing music and have done so on his Telegram channel, Instagram, a hyper-active whatsapp discussion group full of music nerds and of course, several online listening sessions with Headphone Zone. Last year he had his first ever physical listening session the day before the innaugural I-Rock and this year, by popular demand they he back! He is a massive fans of live music, and music experienced through good headphones. And he is big fans of the Indian rock/metal scene - having been in bands, worked for festivals, interviewed artists... So you're in safe hands in this session! The Headphone Zone Experience Studio is right in the heart of the Bollywood district of Mumbai, Andheri. We’ve build this space, bang in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the maximum city. A space where you can blast your open-backs at 100% and won’t be frowned upon for sound leakage.
We’ve got Mumbai’s finest craft breweries next door, and venues for the best live music. Within walking distance are 27 resto-pubs, excellent fine-dining restaurants, and uncountable street eateries. We’re not guaranteeing this is the ultimate day out, but its definitely worth the ride.

Do I need to get my set-up along?
Not really, but you're welcome to get any audio gear you have along. We'll be already providing our audio gear for you to experience.

I'm an absolute newbie. Will I be able to understand what's going on?

How different is this from Headphone Connect?
Headphone Connect is an audiophile meet-up event. While we do have listening sessions there, you won't get the guided explanations you'd receive in this masterclass.
Is there a dress code for the event?

This was the first time my wife & I attended these experience sessions and we walked out thoroughly impressed, having just had a surreal 3-hour experience listening to Amit Trivedi's songs. Great to know that you & your wife had a wonderful time, do swing by for more experiences or just to hang out in our studio.
We all have grown up listening to Rahman. But what makes this listening session special is the amount of information you learn from Raghav. Having grown up in Chennai, he has known Rahman like most in the north don’t. He also has a ton of inside stories from first hand sources that make this a joy. Spoiler: There is no way you can cover everything in the given 3 hours. Nonetheless this was a joy! Highly recommended!

Attending the "Rediscover John Mayer" guided listening session by Headphone Zone at the relaxing Moly cocktail Bar was an unforgettable experience. From the moment we arrived, the welcoming staff, including Karan, Ian, and CEO Raghav, made us feel right at home. They expertly guided us through their extensive collection of IEMs and amp/DACs, making the selection process enjoyable and informative.
The thoughtful organization was evident, from QR codes for the playlist to wipes for maintaining hygiene. Ian's session was a deep dive into John Mayer's life and music, showcasing his journey from discovering his musical calling to winning multiple Grammy awards. Ian's passion and well-researched presentation brought Mayer's pain and artistry to life through the music.
The evening was topped off perfectly with India's cricket team victory, making it a truly memorable night. I highly recommend these listening sessions or audio tours to anyone, whether you're an audiophile or not. You'll be hooked!
