Travel friendly, reference grade sound

At the time of writing this, this headphone hasn't had many reviews. It was a blind buy, and boy I'm glad I took the plunge. Firstly, this headphone is an engineering marvel: A 50mm poly ceramic driver, metamaterials shaped precisely to tune it, and, a super flat impedance curve are just some of things it has going for it.

Thanks to the rigidity of the polyceramic driver, the sound is precise. The detail retrieval and resolution is present, and there's a lot of it; arguably even outside the threshold of human hearing. Every note is neatly outlined and filled in. The metamaterial "dragon scale" attenuates sound in the rear chambers of this closed back making it sound like an open back giving it a wide and open character. A super flat impedance curve and an impedance of 55 ohms makes this very easy to drive: No amplifier required to make this headphone sing.

I tested this headphone on an iPad, a TEAC AI-101DA (DAC amp), Topping D90 + A90 Discrete with the following tracks:

1. 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover -- For the impulse on the drums and reverb in the recording room
2. King Clave -- For Mickey Hart's complex and rhythmic drums with Zakir Hussain's tablas
3. Wherever I Go -- For Mark Knopfler and Ruth Moody's vocals, and, the sweet saxophone in the end
4. Bubbles -- For Yosi Horikawa showing off his sound design that literally tests the limits of staging
5. Kid A -- For instrument separation, placement, soundstage, and, imaging
6. Jack of Speed -- For testing the reproduction of a clean, flawless, and, a well produced recording
7. Astral Traveling -- For the 3D holographic sparkle in the upper frequencies
8. Désperado -- For Diana Krall's husky voice and absence of sibilance
9. All I Want -- For Rufus Wainwright and Joni Mitchell singing in a live setting
10. Take Five -- For Dave Brubeck's jazz piano and microdetails

The SR7000 performed well, infact much better than I had expected. It scales well with better equipment. While the bass is precise, present, tight, and always in control, it may disappoint bass-heads. The midrange is warm and squeaky clean with correct timbre and tone. The upper frequences are detailed and do not glare in your ears making long listening sessions non-fatiguing. The good build quality and light weight nature make it travel friendly.

There's nothing in the market with this headphone's features at its price point. If you are *not* a bass-head and want a travel-friendly and reference grade sound without the hassles of open backs and amplifiers, this headphone is totally for you.
